Devlog: New Update – Adding Background Music and Refining the Experience

Hey everyone!
As a solo developer, I’ve been working tirelessly to bring more life and personalization to TempestAura. This update focuses on one of the most requested features: background music. I also took the opportunity to refine a few other areas to make the experience even more immersive. Here’s what’s new!
🎵 Background Music Options
This was a big one for me. Adding background music felt like the perfect way to deepen the relaxing atmosphere of TempestAura. After some trial and error, I’ve included a selection of tracks for you to choose from:
- Meditation Ambience: Perfect for when you need to unwind.
- Lofi Beats: Great for study sessions or cozy evenings.
- Relaxing Instrumentals: A gentle addition to help you drift off or focus.
You’ll find a new Music Panel in the settings where you can toggle the background music and pick your favorite track.
Implementing this was a bit tricky at first—I had to ensure the music didn’t overpower the rain sounds. After a lot of testing (and listening to the same tracks on loop for hours!), I think I’ve found a balance where the music enhances the rain without taking over.
Dynamic Rain Meets Dynamic Soundscapes
While working on the music, I realized the rain sounds and transitions could use a little polish. Now, as the intensity of the rain changes, the background music adjusts ever so slightly to match the mood. Whether it’s a light drizzle or a heavy downpour, the soundscape feels more cohesive than ever.
This was one of those moments where I remembered why I love being a solo dev—being able to dive into these details and make everything work together feels incredibly rewarding.
UI Improvements for a Better Experience
Adding the new music options meant reworking the settings menu. I’ve streamlined the interface to make everything more intuitive. The toggles for features like dynamic weather and music are now easier to find and use.
It’s a small change, but it’s one of those quality-of-life improvements I hope you’ll notice!
Other Fixes and Tweaks
- Smoothed out transitions between rain intensities in the dynamic weather system.
- Optimized the game’s performance to ensure it runs smoothly on a variety of mobile devices.
- Polished the visual effects, making the rain and reflections even more immersive.
What’s Next?
Looking ahead, I want to add more environmental features, like fog and gentle wind sounds, to make TempestAura feel even more alive. I’m also brainstorming additional music tracks and maybe even a “favorites” feature for users to customize their experience further.
Thanks for sticking with me on this journey! Being a solo developer has its challenges, but seeing your feedback and excitement for the game makes it all worthwhile. Let me know what you think of the new music system and what else you’d like to see in future updates.
See you in the next devlog!
